About RMI Architects
RMI Architects is an award-winning design studio based in Belfast with work across the UK, Ireland and the United States. The practice says it is committed to creating architecture that can positively influence our environment and enrich our lives, designing buildings that are responsive to their context, well crafted and with the potential to inspire.
It sums up this approach as Respond, Make and Inspire, and works across a wide range of sectors and scales. The studio operates from Ormeau Avenue in Belfast's Linen Quarter, having previously been based at Great Patrick Street in the Cathedral Quarter, where partners John Reid and Peter McGuckin led the regeneration of the former Northern Ireland Electricity headquarters building in 2005.
RMI describes an open studio working arrangement intended to encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas and skills across project teams, and a collaborative design approach involving clients, design team and stakeholders. The practice says it routinely carries out internal and peer review design critiques using drawings, diagrams, physical models and computer-generated models to explore architectural form, massing, scale and materiality.
The team is led by Director Stephen Miskelly and Associate Gavin Sloan, with all projects led by Stephen or Gavin and managed day to day by the project architect. RMI states that it is a Chartered RIBA Practice, that all of its architects are registered with both RIBA and ARB, that it offers the full range of RIBA services as outlined in the RIBA Plan of Work, and that it maintains ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certification.
The practice also states that it is Constructionline registered and SSIP registered, and that it is an equal opportunities employer.
