Marvel

Marvel is an interdisciplinary design collective headquartered at 145 Hudson Street in New York City, with additional offices in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Richmond, Virginia and Barcelona, Spain. The practice describes itself as bringing architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning and interior design together on one team, so that planning sets the stage for architecture and the experience of a landscape and a building interior reinforce one another.

Its stated focus is work at the intersection of public and private space, creating solutions that integrate nature and context. The firm's own history page traces its New York lineage to 1992, when Rogers Marvel Architects was founded in New York City by principals Rob Rogers and Jonathan Marvel. In 2013, twenty years after that founding, the two formed independent practices known as Marvel Architects and Rogers Partners.

In 2019 the firm became Marvel Architects, Landscape Architects, Urban Designers, PLLC, practising under the shortened name MARVEL, and in 2024 it was awarded the AIA New York Medal of Honor, described on its site as the chapter's highest distinction recognising a firm for distinguished work and professional standing. Marvel states that it is a minority-owned practice and lists certifications including New York State Empire State Development MBE, New York City School Construction Authority MBE, Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity SWaM MBE, City of Richmond OMBD MBE, City of Philadelphia Office of Economic Opportunity MBE and New York City SBS MBE.

The team page names founding principal Jonathan Marvel, FAIA, ASLA Affiliate, ANFA, founding partners Lissa So, FAIA and Guido Hartray, AIA, and a further group of partners and directors, many of whom carry AIA, RA, ASLA, PLA, AICP or LEED AP designations.
